Society Killed the Confident

Society is very messed up.  Teenage girls are starving themselves daily to look like the women on the covers of magazines, but even those women don’t look like that.  Girls, and guys, can’t achieve the results they want and it messes with them.  They start to believe that if they don’t look like that, they aren’t good enough.  And a lot of that comes from social rankings at school.  Society has driven into our brains that if you aren’t drop dead gorgeous, a double zero, tall, and rich you aren’t good enough.  For men, it’s that they need to be tan, tall, and buff out of this world.

All of this leads to low self-confidence which can often cause a lack of social well-being.  People stop doing what they enjoy because they either: 1) don’t think they’re good enough, or 2) are worried people will judge them for having the past they do.  As a society, we need to stop judging people based off looks and start accepting people for who they really are.  And if you do have low self confidence, you need to find a way to boost it because just dropping your social life altogether won’t help.  Society also needs a role model that isn’t perfect, someone that little girls, or little boys, can look up to and realize that people aren’t perfect.

I find the best remedy for all of this is to just go out there and be who you are.  Stop being a wimp and ignore what other people think, because it doesn’t matter to you.  None of it should because we are all our own person and what other people think shouldn’t, and doesn’t, matter in the grand scheme of things.
