Out of the Mouths of Babes. . .

The holiday season is in full swing at our house.  The tree is decorated, candles are glowing in all of our windows, and garland is adorning our porch rails.  In addition to the festive look of our house, with four children there is much anticipation for the arrival of Christmas. . . and presents.

Being typical kids, ages 7 to 12, they have lists of what they would like Santa to bring.  Some items are bigger, an iPod nano, and some items are smaller, a Webkin.  They are fortunate children who have nice clothes, their own bedrooms, and don’t want for any basic necessities.  It wouldn’t surprise me if they thought that they should receive all items on their Santa lists.

So imagine my surprise and delight, when our ten year old daughter asked me to edit a post she had written for our sister site, Go Shopping Info.  In her pre-edited version, she stated that buying all gifts that a child requests would make him or her “a spoiled brat”.  Although we found a nicer way to state her opinion about such indulgences, it was nice to know that she felt this way.

To read a ten year old’s opinion on Christmas and gift giving, check out her article, and know that as parents, we are proud of her.
