Now that my wrestling season is pretty much over, I feel like I have all the free time in the world. I have very few after-school obligations and I’m not spending every Saturday at wrestling tournaments that can last 12+ hours. Because of this, I will be a getting a part-time job. Obviously, I have been holding down this writing gig for many years now, but I need something more substantial. As a teenager, I can see good reasons to obtain a part time job, as well as what types of places would be well suited for my work habits.
The primary upside to getting a part-time job (other than the money), would be getting out of the house to work. I’ve requested an increased number of articles for Peku Publications, but I have found out that I am not very good at working from home. Like many teenagers, I am easily distracted, so I tend to spend a lot of time goofing off and not working. If I am placed in a structured environment, with a chain of command and whatnot, I tend to work well. Working out of home, in such an environment, would allow me to work better and achieve success. Also, having a part time job would help prepare me for what it will be like to work in the real world.
Although I have yet to start applying for jobs, I am already considering places to work. In the perfect world, I want to find somewhere I can easily commute to, both when I’m at my mom’s and my dad’s. Personally, I also want to avoid food-service and retail jobs. All of my friends who work in these fields dislike their jobs. Sadly, the majority of part time jobs for teens are in these fields. So, I am going to try for what I can. If I can find one, a paid internship would be awesome. That both provides money and helps prepare me for the job fields I’m interested in. Sadly, they’re hard to come by.
This job-finding will be quite an adventure, so when I have some major changes in the situation, I will include it in an article. This could, quite possibly, become a series of articles…
