Learning times tables doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, there are hundreds if not thousands of apps that integrate math lessons into games to make learning math fun and exciting. However, with so many apps to choose from, it can be hard to find the right one. Instead of downloading random apps from the Google Play store or AppStore just to delete them later, I decided to do some research to find a better way of picking times table apps. Luckily, I came across a site that summarizes key features for each app from the get-go, making it a bit easier to identify the best one.
Best Multiplication Table Apps
After looking through the list of apps, I picked out some that caught my eye and tested them out. I selected my top 3 favorites and reviewed them.
Math games for kids – Rating: 4.1, Downloads: 500K+
My first choice is Math games for kids. Not only did I find it to be great for learning times tables, but I also found it to be a great option for learning addition, subtraction, and division. There are games of every type including food-themed games, times table bubbles, quiz modes, training modes, multiple choice levels, and more. I also like that you have the option to play the games with or without a timer depending on how challenging you want the game to be.
Although Math games for kids lets you play through all the basic levels for free, your kids might find them to be too easy after a while. Higher difficulty levels can be unlocked for a small fee. It is just a one-time payment and I found it to be pretty reasonable. And, you are ultimately paying for education, which is an investment that is certainly worth making.
Pros: More than times tables, multiple game modes, quizzes, with or without a timer.
Cons: Only easier levels in the free version.
Overall: Great for kids who want to learn addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by playing games, although payment is required to unlock higher difficulty levels.
Maths Multiplication Tables – Rating: 4.4, Downloads: 1M+
My second choice is Maths Multiplication Tables. I found this to be a great choice for both beginners and advanced learners, as you can complete math exercises and quizzes for times tables from 1 to 100. I also liked how you can listen to audio recordings of time tables to learn the tables faster. Another plus is that you can customize the difficulty setting of the exam mode to fit your level.
While I found Maths Multiplication Tables to be a great option for learning virtually any times table, I did find it that it did not have many options when it came to interactive learning games. If you are looking for more engaging times tables games, you might prefer one of my other picks.
Pros: For beginners and advanced learners, exercises, quizzes, times tables 1 to 100, audio recordings, customizable difficulty.
Cons: Few learning mode options.
Overall: Become a master at multiplication by learning times tables from 1 to 100, although you won’t find many options for interactive learning games.
10monkeys Multiplication – Rating: 4.0, Downloads: 500K+
My third choice is 10monkeys Multiplication. I found the game to be really well designed. Not only did I find that it runs smoothly, but you can also tell that the developers took their time to create a solid and fun game. From the moment you open the game, you can tell that it is all about having fun, as you enter a jungle world filled with monkeys and gorillas that will help you learn math. Another plus I found is that there are more than 12 different game modes, so you can always switch up the game anytime you want to. I also like how scores are displayed on a worldwide leaderboard, making it a bit more exciting and addicting to play.
The only drawback I found is that the games are limited for times tables 2 to 10. Although I found 10monkeys Multiplication to be a great option for kids who are just getting started with multiplication, you might prefer my previous pick, Maths Multiplication Tables, for higher level times tables.
Pros: Solid design, monkey theme, multiple game modes, worldwide leaderboard.
Cons: Time tables 2-10 only.
Overall: Learn times tables from 2 to 10 by playing through monkey themed worlds, but you will need to look elsewhere for higher level times tables.
Conclusion
These are my top 3 favorite multiplication table apps. My first pick is great if you are looking for a game that also involves other math operations such as addition, subtraction, and division. My second pick is great if you are interested in learning a wide range of times tables. And, my third pick is great if you are looking for a fun themed game that your young kids will love. Have fun learning times tables!
