Air Gun Safety: From the Teen’s View

Recently, I was hanging out with friends talking, and we ended up on the subject of air guns. This discussion prompted me to write an article on air guns.

In this article, I would like to talk about air guns and the different types. There are three primary types: pellet guns, airsoft guns, and paintball guns. Most people out there know what a pellet, or BB, gun is. They are either gas or spring powered and fire a metal ball or slug. Airsoft guns fire a plastic ball and are powered by electric motors, gas, or spring. Finally, paintball is a paintball (literally) and is gas powered. (Learn more about Top Rate Paintball Guns later in this article.)

The most dangerous type is a pellet gun. Pellet guns are high powered and easily can hurt your child, as they fire a metal ball at over seven-hundred feet per second. They are even capable of killing.?Also, the slug may be lead, so they should kept away from kids.

Airsoft guns are far less dangerous, and possibly the safest of the three. The plastic pellet rarely punctures skin and is small (6mm diameter). The guns fire less than seven-hundred feet per second, and most fire between three and four-hundred feet per second. They are also less likely to cause major bruising than a pellet gun.

Finally, paintball guns are far less dangerous than pellet guns. These guns don’t have a set feet per second (so they may surpass seven hundred) and fire a plastic capsule full of paint. Being shot feels like a firm pinch, and may leave a welt or break skin. Still, they can’t kill and will break skin, but not actually puncture the skin.

So, in my mind, the airsoft guns are the safest. If you wear eye protection, you nearly eliminate the risk of serious or even moderate injury. They are the safest, but still…be careful!
